Once called the "Gift of the Gods" by Homer, pears are very low in calories and are packed with health-benefiting nutrients, dietary fiber, and antioxidants. They are a good source of vitamin C, which helps fight free radicals, oxidative stress, and inflammation. They're also a moderate source of B-vitamins, vitamin K, copper, iron, potassium, manganese, and magnesium. And believe it or not, pears are considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic fruits! Pear skins contains at least 3-4 times as many phenolic phytonutrients as the flesh itself and about half of the pears dietary fiber, which is why we left them on!
